No Greater Love

Posted by pstrtimreynolds on March 13, 2014 at 11:05 AM Comments comments (1)

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. (NLT)

Helping a friend in need may be just a simple act of kindness, but the importance here is about relationships. We don't necessarily think about "maintaining" relationships but rather directing our time to things that matter to us. Take a break from your busy life and think of a starving relationship you can feed. It could blossom into something so beautiful only God could have touched it.

Love Each Other

John 15:17 This is my command: Love each other. (NLT)

Do you have someone that you need to make amends with? Take the time to express yourself and share your feelings. Once you've done this, then begin to work at building the relationship back. Be careful not to linger on the hurts. Be graceful and extend honor to the other person by giving them the benefit of the doubt. Care for your friend out of love.

Nothing Under The Sun

Ecclesiastes 1:9 History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. (NLT)

When we gain meaning from anything apart from God we are never completely satisfied. We are always left wanting more. It is only when we seek God that we are truly content in ourselves, our circumstances, and our relationships. While there may be nothing new under the sun, you certainly can count on a relationship with God that is refreshing and satisfying. Is there anything you are thankful for, that God has been showing you lately?

Cutting Remarks

Proverbs 12:18 Some people make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise bring healing. (NLT)

Whether you recognize it or not, you are not the only one walking around with hurts, scars and open wounds. If you are able to look beyond your hurts for a moment, you can then truly see how much power you have. You actually have the power to build someone up! As a result you will find healing in watching your powerful words become fuel for empowerment to the person you speak into.

The Tongue

James 3:6 And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself. (NLT)

While you can delete a tweet or a post, spoken words are heard immediately and remembered forever. You may be in an awkward relationship at the moment because of this. Remember those tongue depressors at the doctor's office? It's difficult to talk and equally difficult to hear with one in your mouth. Before you speak discouraging or criticizing words, put a "tongue depressor" in your mouth and remember that God loves them.

Grow

Psalm 103:15 Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. (NLT)

We should be growing into something wonderful, that God has lovingly planted and nurtured. Learn your strengths and use them to give glory to God. Use your growth for God's purposes and leverage your gifting for His kingdom. After all, you were planted for a reason.

Submit to God

Job 22:21 Submit to God, and you will have peace; then things will go well for you. (NLT)

Do you ever put your hopes into plans and goals? When things don't work out, you end up grieving over the death of a dream. God wants to give us the desires of our hearts, but we first need to turn them over to Him. Only after submitting to Him can He help you rebuild that dream. Then the fun begins!

Salt

Mark 9:50 Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other. (NLT)

We could use more salt here on the earth. Salt is used to preserve foods from decaying. As believers, we can be salt by flavoring this world with peace and truly make a difference. Let's use peace to preserve the lives of many!

Rest

Isaiah 28:12 God has told his people, "Here is a place of rest; let the weary rest here. This is a place of quiet rest." But they would not listen. (NLT)

It's important to take God's cue for rest. He is well aware of the journey ahead and it would be wise to heed His prompting. To some, it may mean paying closer attention to your body by caring for it. To others, it could be taking a day of rest from work. However it may look to you, be sure to rest when God picks out your spot to rest.

Unsolicited Criticism

Hebrews 10:36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God's will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. (NLT)

How do you handle unsolicited criticism? Does your pride get hurt after you've done your best and still are criticized? How do you handle criticism from other Christians for doing the will of God? Yes, it's difficult. But you need to carry on with a patient endurance. This endurance you can surely draw from your faith to overcome any criticism.
